Masterclasses recorded at
THE REINA SOFÍA SCHOOL OF MUSIC
to be made available on the NAXOS VIDEO LIBRARY
With a view to facilitating music education on an international platform, Naxos and the Reina Sofía School of Music have entered into a formal agreement whereby subscribers to the Naxos Video Library will be able to enjoy access to the School of Music's 500-plus video masterclasses, all of which are conducted in English by eminent musicians.
Naxos is already well-resourced in the audiovisual medium, with recordings of classical music performances, opera, ballet, live concerts and documentaries on its www.naxosvideolibrary.com platform. Now, all students and music-lovers in general who subscribe to the platform will be able to search through the Reina Sofía School’s masterclasses catalogue by category, composer, artist, music title, recording location, and festival.
Under this new arrangement, it is hoped that the masterclasses given by internationally renowned musicians who have visited the Reina Sofía School of Music throughout its 26-year history will reach a wider, appreciative audience.
About the Reina Sofía School of Music
The Reina Sofía School of Music was established in 1991 with two objectives: to support the development of highly talented young musicians; and to integrate music further into society. The School is one of today's leading international music schools. It has a current enrolment of 150 students from 30 countries who have been selected solely on the basis of merit. They receive a personalised education from the best specialists in the world; and they perform in the most prestigious music halls as a result of the 300-plus public concerts that the School arranges for them. Additionally, the School’s scholarship programme allows for anyone with the requisite ability to access the first-rate education appropriate for his or her talent, regardless of their resources or personal circumstances. Her Majesty Queen Sofía is the Honorary President of the School, and its Board of Trustees gathers both public and private institutions towards a common objective. The School’s alumni – numbering more than 700 musicians – are located all around the world, almost without exception living fulfilling, creative lives, many of them having contributed to the great growth in the level of musical performance in Spain. The Reina Sofía School of Music is the principal entity of the Albéniz Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by Paloma O'Shea.
